This is because quartz contains resins to bind the crushed stone together, so placing hot pans can discolor the surface permanently. Quartz countertops can withstand heat up to 120 degrees, but beyond that, they’re likely to sustain damage. Always use a metal rack or hot pad when placing hot pans, dishes, or mugs on the counters.

It’s important to wipe up spills quickly with any type of natural stone surface. Fortunately, quartz countertops are far less likely to stain or absorb spills than marble or granite because the resin makes them nonporous.
